SPEAKER: Peter Sestoft, Prof. at ITU
ABSTRACT: For the last half year I have worked on the third edition of the book Programming Language Concepts (previous editions 2012 and 2017 published by Springer) together with Niels Hallenberg. The talk will sketch the overall philosophy of the book and then present mostly what is new and what has changed since the last edition. It will highlight especially what I have learnt in the process, which concerns mostly the Arm64 CPU architecture (replacing the Intel/AMD x86_64 architecture we used previously) and studies of the machine code generated by Java and .NET just-in-time compilers nowadays. By definition, the book revision finishes on the very day of the talk.
